We have to thank Cynthia Hull of Idaho for this wonderful project idea! She came to us looking for a template for a disposable camera cover and she came to the right place! We were so intrigued by her request, that we went out and bought a disposable camera and made a template that can be used to make camera skins for any occasion! The template we have designed is specifically for the FujiFilm QuickSnap Flash camera but can be modified to fit other FujiFilm disposable cameras as well. We picked the FujiFilm brand since the cameras were reasonably priced and if you want to use this item as a party favor and will be buying several of them then price is definitely an issue!
Just download our template by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. When the picture opens, right click on it and from the drop down menu select "Save Picture As…" and copy it as either a .GIF or .BMP to the directory of your choice. Then simply add text, photos or clipart and design a custom camera skin! Having a wedding? How about wedding clipart or photos of the happy couple? A birthday celebration? Use photos of the guest of honor or other birthday clipart. The possibilities are endless! And don't stop with plain paper! We made covers from our glitter holographic paper as well. You can also use foil papers or glow paper or just about any inkjet specialty paper we carry! Go wild!
MATERIALS:
FujiFilm QuickSnap Flash disposable camera
Camera "skin" template (See link below)
Inkjet paper
Glue stick or glue
Scissors
Craft knife
Cutting mat or a piece of heavy cardboard
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Open a blank page in your graphics program in landscape orientation. Download the template as described above and import it onto your blank page.
2) Resize the template so that it measures 7 1/4" wide by 7 1/8" high. Lighten the color of the template if it is too dark.
3) Add your text, clipart, or photos to the white areas of the template. (The shaded areas will be cut out.)
4) Print a test page on plain paper. Cut it out around the outline, use your craft knife to cut out the six shaded areas and fold on the fold and tab lines.
5) Remove the cardboard cover from your camera and replace it with your test "skin". If it fits well, go ahead and print it out on the paper of your choice.
6) Using glue or a glue stick, apply glue to the tabs and attach the skin to the camera.
If you prefer to fill the entire area of the skin with a design, it's not hard to do, but since the template is not transparent in the interior, it will require two steps.
7) First make sure that the template is centered on your page. Then place a rectangle over it and make certain that it extends beyond all the edges of the template beneath it. Fill this rectangle with the color or pattern of your choice (like we did with our "kissy lips" camera skin!) and center it on the page. You should not see the template beneath it.
8) Print the filled rectangle on a sheet of test paper.
9) Go back to your project and remove the rectangle by cutting (Ctrl-X) – not deleting. This will enable you to paste (Ctrl-V) the rectangle back in place if you need to without having to recreate it.
10) Now you should see only the template on your page. Flip the template horizontally, as you would for a t-shirt transfer. Put the paper with the printed rectangle back into the printer to print on the opposite (blank) side.
11) Print the template on the blank side. Cut it out and proceed as above in step 4.
What a wonderful memory maker this gift or favor will be! And many thanks to Cynthia for a wonderful project idea!
